This is an excellent biography that includes the best published bibliography for Toplady that I have found, its writing followed the discovery of substantial unpublished Toplady manuscripts (which are now held by the Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University), the Contents descriptions and preface may be found here while the 14 megabyte full text (excluding the section dealing with contemporary hymn writers) may be found here. This is in many ways the most unbiased of all the biography's, neither being overly critical (Lawton) nor hagiographical (Ella). |
