This biography (172 pages) also includes an extended analysis of Toplady's hymn writing (47 pages). Lawton does not appear to share Toplady's fervent Calvinism, consequently he does betray a certain lack of sympathy for Toplady. If you can look past this critical gaze (which can be grating at times) this biography is actually quite good and is certainly not a hatchet job.
